voilà j'ai voulu faire court, ça l'était mais partiellement faux !!!

Il y a quelques mois, dans GNU/linux mag il y avait une série d'articles (3, il me semble) sur le RIM (Run In Memory) et on y expliquait comment créer son propre CD magique.
Inird, comme le dit freddec, ne fait que charger des modules vitaux (pilotes de carte RAID, scsi, etc ...).
Il me semble que ce n'est qu'un fichier tar des modules, mais n'ayant pas de linux sous la main je ne peux confirmer la chose !

Je leur fournis un kernel et un initrd en PXE, l'initrd prepare un ramdisk, va chercher un root complet en http, qu'il decompresse ensuite sur son ramdisk. Puis il pivote le root dessus, execute /sbin/init et le systeme commence a demarrer.

Les live-cd fonctionnent de la meme facon, tu extrais une archive sur un ramdisk et tu pivotes le root dessus.

Pour des exemples, tu as les images netboot debian : http://ftp.fr.debian.org/debian/dists/s … s/netboot/

L'initrd est un fichier genre image du système qui contient les pilotes minimum nécessaires au noyaux pour booter correctement.

L'initrd peut egalement contenir des scripts charges de preparer le montage du root filesystem. Le man d'initrd est assez complet la-dessus.

Bon, je pense avoir résolu le pb en utilisant mkinitrd comme décrit dans le lien ci-dessous.

~# mkinitrd -o /boot/initrd.img-2.6.17

et c'est tout

J'en ai profité pour virer les règles foireuses d'udev (enfin les liens symboliques seulement, on ne sait jamais wink ), j'ai rétabli l'initrd dans le menu.lst et ça boote 'bien' ...

Je me demande toujours de quoi peut-être constitué cet initrd, parce que dans mes fichiers de conf (/etc/mkinitrd), il n'y a pas grand chose hmm
